Recent MOVEit Enhancements
MOVEit DMZ & MOVEit Central 6.0 - Released October 2008
WHAT’S NEW IN VERSION 6.0
The feature focus of this release is to allow MOVEit DMZ and MOVEit Central to extend operational flexibility, integration, security and performance with new database integration and multi-tiered architecture deployment.
MOVEit DMZ 6 release highlights:
- Integrates with SQL Server Database: Administrators have the option to either use the embedded MOVEit database or integrate with Microsoft® SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express for both user authentication and server system configurations such as access controls, user permissions, and password policies.
- Tiered Architecture Deployments: Enables the deployment of multiple DMZ nodes in the form of a web farm. Administrators can now deploy MOVEit DMZ on one server, the encrypted data store on a second server, and the configuration database on a third server. Multi-tiered web farm deployments across multiple segments provides extra protection for the sensitive data in the files that MOVEit DMZ receives, and for the configuration and permissions information that it uses.
MOVEit Central 6 release highlights:
- Integrates with SQL Server Database: Administrators have the option to either use the embedded MOVEit database or integrate with Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express for logging. The MOVEit Central tamper-evident, cryptographic database logs every action and error for auditing and reporting.

MOVEit Central v.5.0 - Released October 2007
Originally introduced in 2001, MOVEit Central is a powerful enterprise software solution for managed file transfer (MFT). MOVEit Central is a workflow engine that is used to automate the pulling, processing and pushing of files on a scheduled, event-driven or on-demand basis between a wide variety of internal and external systems, including MOVEit DMZ servers.
MOVEit Central does this using easy-to-create tasks that IT staff can quickly click together (no scripting or other programming required). Multiple tasks can be run at the same time, and each can handle multiple files, sources and destinations, and secure and non-secure transfer methods. Tasks can automatically process files using built-in MOVEit Central functions as well as with custom VBS scripts.
Here are a few of the 50 enhancements in Central v.5.0.
- Expanded Task Access Control Permissions
Enhancements have been made to the MOVEit Central permissions structure, greatly expanding the ability to compartmentalize the viewing and control of hosts, host access credentials, tasks, scripts, etc.
- Download Limits on Size and Number of Files
New options in MOVEit Central now make it possible to limit the number of files and/or the total size of files downloaded during any particular task run.
- Creating/Cloning Temporary Tasks Via the API
The MOVEit Central API has been enhanced to allow third-party applications to create and run temporary tasks (usually based on templates), and to input source, destination, paths and file names dynamically.
- Expanded HTTP/HTTPS File Transfer Support
Central can now use HTTPS and the non-secure HTTP protocol to Post or Put (upload) files to and Get (download) files from all Web servers that support these protocols (includes SharePoint Get and Put).
- Improved Task Import Process
The MOVEit Central Admin task import process features improved change control capabilities.
- New PGP Encrypt/Sign Compatibility Options
New options force the use of SHA256 or SHA512 hash algorithms (as opposed to SHA1) and the use of older version 3 signatures, providing improved compatibility with McAfee eBusiness Server.
- Faster Windows File System Copies
Central v.5.0 copies files approximately twice as fast as previous versions when working with Windows File System and Shares sources and destinations.
- Full Support of ISO-Latin-1 Character Set
MOVEit Central, Central Admin, and the Central API clients now support the entire ISO/IEC 8859-1 character set for file and folder names, file masks, audit records, and other displays.
